Dog Reverse Alarm   (+5, -1)  [vote for, against]
Just like a truck

Just as dogs are fast, graceful and agile when moving forwards, they are also slow, awkward and clumsy when moving backwards.

Mine likes walking around the coffee table (I don't know why, he just does) and often finds himself in a cul-de-sac made by the table, the sofa and my legs. He then has to wriggle out backwards, stepping on others, knocking tea everywhere and generally creating mayhem.

I would like a small attachment for his collar that detects when he's reversing and goes "BEEP - BEEP - BEEP - CAUTION! DOG REVERSING! STAND CLEAR! BEEP - BEEP - BEEP CAUTION! DOG REVERSING! STAND CLEAR!"

It probably wouldn't help much, but it would amuse me.

walking forwards and backwards at the same time http://video.google...pe=search&plindex=0
.... and carrying stuff ! and making a noise like a hornet's nest ! and doesn't fall over when given a kick ! This thing makes me laugh out loud in an empty room ;-) [xenzag, Nov 24 2007]

the thing in that link reminds me of the bottom half of two guys moving a couch. Except in the last part, the slow motion of it catching its balance, then stalking towards the camera, that was kinda creepy.

There's something hideous about that bloke trying to kick the poor thing over. It's so incredibly animal-like that you end up actually feeling sorry for it.

Many sci-fi writers have asked if the difference between a robot and a living creature lies purely in our perception - to me this hints towards an answer.

wouldn't this scare the crap out of the dog?
