Cheap disposable plastic tent can be used and then discarded after use. Can later be used as trash bag to hold the trash left over from camping.
Tent can have simple Ziploc-bag type seals to partially close some of the tent flaps.
An inflatable version would have large inflatable rib-cells, for both structural support and double layer air gap protection. Inner layer could be black plastic, while outer layer would be clear for solar heat absorption. Can be optionally sold with smaller mylar tent which can be used as an inner tent, creating a further layer of air gap protection.-- sanman, Jan 29 2021 Glad Tent https://www.youtube...watch?v=FWafX3cgV30 [sanman, Jan 29 2021] Cheap Plastic Tent in Wind https://www.youtube...watch?v=7PVQLsDkCfo [sanman, Jan 29 2021] a cardboard tent ...doesnt look too sturdy https://www.orienta...qbm-bBoCmJwQAvD_BwE [xandram, Jan 30 2021] Crap idea - bone [-] more plastic :-( ..... at least make it an edible tent.-- xenzag, Jan 29 2021 How about a tent that doubles as a body bag ?
What if the tent could self-destruct by burning after use ? If it was made of a waxed paper/cardboard composition, it would go up like a rocket, users could be incinerated while they sleep, MUHWHAHAHAHAHA ... </Coughing>-- 8th of 7, Jan 29 2021 ^ </snicker>
Weaponized tents, lined with solid flammables and accelerants.-- whatrock, Jan 29 2021 Impractical, extra waste, liable to kill a user or two in emergencies, pointless... Oh what the hell, have a bun.-- Voice, Jan 29 2021 ... and a bag of marshmallows to toast, and some potatoes to bake in the embers.-- 8th of 7, Jan 29 2021 I like the idea of an origami heavy duty wax paper Hoberman dome tent and interlocking cardboard supports.Whole thing would probably pancake and start growing grass through it in a week or so.
No more disposable plastic though.-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Jan 29 2021 // in a week or so. //
That would meet [xen]'s criteria for recyclability, then; add some fertilizer to promote growth ...
Hmm, how about an ammonium nitrate based fertilizer, blended in with the wax coating ... ? <Evil chuckling/>
Then the race would be on to light it before it gets too damp ... some sort of pull-cord igniter, perhaps.-- 8th of 7, Jan 29 2021 Disposable idea Create idea, get so-so comments, delete after a while.
This idea suggests something a bit stupid that is widely known to exist, and which solves no real problems while creating lots of others. The idea is presented as if it were sensible and new. Beneath the idea, the idea creator posts a link to commercially availble examples of the idea being posted.
Meanwile, other halfbakery users post confused and slightly irrelevant annotations trying to work out what is going on.
Eventually the idea is either deleted, or falls to the bottom of the recent view lists.-- pocmloc, Jan 29 2021 It's a good compromise...-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Jan 29 2021 I have just realised that it is possible but difficult to use the HB formatting to imitate ideas in annotations, and annotations in ideas. We had a spate recently of fake annotations using this kind of technique.
Perhaps is is worthy of an idea in itself to promote this as a phenomena in itself. But perhaps not.-- pocmloc, Jan 29 2021 Please note that Glad Tent was a one-off experiment, and was not commercialized. You cannot buy that tent anywhere.-- sanman, Jan 29 2021 It's also possible that the plastic could be biodegradable.
So that and the inflatability could be the new art.-- sanman, Jan 29 2021 // Mylar is not biodegradable. //
Pyrolysed Mylar is mostly water and carbon dioxide, both of which can usefully be absorbed by photosynthetic plants.
// And youre be hard pressed to find a biodegradable material of trash bag thinness suitable for making an inflatable tent //
Gold-beater's skin, as used in the gas-bags of hydrogen-filled airships.-- 8th of 7, Jan 30 2021 // youre be hard pressed to find a biodegradable material of trash bag thinness suitable for making an inflatable tent.
I've seen grocery bags that are biodegradable, and they seem quite thin
// By the way, inflatable tents and other temporary structures are also WKTE.
The inflatability was an enhancement of the disposability, since it would not require tent poles, etc, which may not be as disposable.-- sanman, Jan 30 2021 Bamboo; renewable, environmentally-friendly, burns really well.-- 8th of 7, Jan 30 2021 Now, a disposable paper tent that can be repurposed as a Montgolfier-style hot air balloon, heated by disposable barbecues, would be an innovation worth exploring ...-- 8th of 7, Jan 30 2021 i posted a link for a cardboard tent which looks very flimsy, but i like the origami nature of this tent. it would be great for starting a campfire when you are finished.-- xandram, Jan 30 2021 The Air Accident Investigation Board is still considering their report on that.-- 8th of 7, Jan 30 2021 // Googling biodegradable tents finds more examples... Just because an idea seems new to you doesnt mean youre the first to think of it.
kdf, we all know inflatable tents are a thing - that's why I plainly referred to it as an inflatable tent without explaining what an inflatable tent is.
The main feature here is a tent that is disposable/biodegradable, for which the inflatability then adds the benefit of being a self-supporting structure without the need for tentpoles, which tend not to be disposable/biodegradable.
Your links only show inflatable tents, none of which are disposable/biodegradable.-- sanman, Jan 31 2021 All tents are disposable. You just need to find a bin large enough to stuff it into.-- pocmloc, Jan 31 2021 i didnt think this should be an m-f-d, so i gave a bun for defending your idea .-- xandram, Jan 31 2021 In Israel we need the tent for protection from the sun in the day, and then the solar heating wont work at night. Still you get my vote, because its the first time I saw you. So a bit late I wish to tell you welcome!
No, in 2013 I remarked on your instant freezer idea. So my vote is just saying hi during the Covid epidemic, and that it's not a completely bad idea, especially since it reuses the tent as a garbage bag. Now there's environmental thinking!-- pashute, Feb 03 2021 random, halfbakery
