Disaster Names for People   (+7, -1)  [vote for, against]
Name people after natural disasters

We give huricanes human names. Many mountains and volcanoes have human names of some sort. The practice can work both ways. Let's start naming our children after natural disasters:

Twister Smith

Earthquake Stokes

Tidal Wave Burke

If we feel like there aren't enough general disasters to use, we can start using specific incidents or disasters other than natural ones:

Mount St. Helena's Eruption Murphy

Challenger Explosion Gates

I gather you haven't heard of the Snarfy Custard Factory explosion of 1964...

Hurricane Carter. Should include minor events for people without overblown egos: Light Drizzle McDougal, Foggy Marx.
-- Dog Ed, Jun 28 2001

That's "Mount St. Helens", not "St. Helena's".
-- egnor, Jun 28 2001

One of my favorite stories I've heard is how an American man called Al Nino gets abuse from people affected by the El Nino phenomenon.

This is sort of baked in the slowest and dullest game in the world, snooker. Two of it's most famous proponents being 'Hurricane' Higgins and 'Whirlwind' White. Though these are nicknames rather than their actual given names.

To my mind they would be more correctly designated as 'Light Breeze' and 'Gentle Zephyr'. And as for the infamous Eddie Charlton. 'Continental Drift' would seem appropriate.

I once saw an Oprah episode with a guy who legally changed his name to "Bass Fishing In The Rivers Of America". Not really a disaster, but I did have this horrible experience with a treble hoook once...

They give hurricanes names, like Andy, and Bob (why the fuck they gave it that name) why not tornadoes?

Twister Smith would be a great name for a rockabilly guitar player.
