Depleted Uranium Sunflower Seeds   (+3)  [vote for, against]
Dense.

Had the 100 million hand-made and hand-painted sunflower seeds at Tate Modern been made from depleted uranium rather than life- threatening ceramics, dust would be much less likely to rise to nose level.

re: link... yeah too bad ceramics melt in water or you could just rinse them off once a day... :/

Excellent, [MB]. The external radiation dose from DU is only about 60 percent of that from the same mass of natural uranium. What were they thinking?!?

So, wait...this is an IOTHU (If-Only-They-Had-Used) idea? What?

//The external radiation dose from DU is only about 60 percent of that from the same mass of natural uranium.//

Well, point taken. Clearly, it would be preferable to use natural, wholegrain uranium straight from mother earth, but depleted uranium is easier to get. Also, intriguingly:

"Civilian uses include ... radiation shielding in medical radiation therapy and industrial radiography equipment, and containers used to transport radioactive materials."

Hmmm.

Not to mention DU counterweights in aircraft. Yeah, hmmm.

Wow! You bought the same edition of Wikipedia as me!

Flavour?

[MB] I hadn't noticed! What are the chances? Did you get the free custard?!?
-- Boomershine, Oct 15 2010

You only got the custard? You should have held out for the okapi.
-- MaxwellBuchanan, Oct 15 2010

//You should have held out for the okapi.//

No...vegeturanium.
-- Boomershine, Oct 15 2010

They'd just sink if you sprinkled them on your muesli, [MB].

Grrtrh!

I filed a complaint against my own government for the use of DU munitions. The exporting of toxic waste without the consent of the receiving country is a felony here.

I got no reply.

I know where the water from Afghanistan goes.
