Why not give your customers lessons in how to prevent the issues that make your service necessary?
This is a Dental practice with lessons in care and what to eat and special tools available to allow you to do your own Dental work.-- JesusHChrist, May 07 2014 Baked? https://www.youtube...watch?v=sstCC7T0Do4 [2 fries shy of a happy meal, May 07 2014] Mr Bean at the dentist. https://www.youtube...watch?v=60NSM_EHmuw [spidermother, May 09 2014] Ah, don't all dental practices do this already? Every time I go to the hygienist, I get quizzed about my brushing and eating habits, and told what I should and shouldn't be doing.
My last dentist did the same thing.
I am fairly certain that all dentists and dental hygienists do this.-- MaxwellBuchanan, May 07 2014 // tools available to allow you to do your own Dental work //
We will pay a dollar to watch that. Presumably the kit includes a Dremel, a mirror, and a pair of snipe-nose pilers.
The DeLuxe version has lidocaine -- 8th of 7, May 07 2014 Alas, I must agree with [MB]. Besides which a lot of the so called tools may be bought at a pharmacy.-- xandram, May 07 2014 Actually, hang on.
Now that I've read the idea, I see that [JHC] is advocating actual DIY dentistry, rather than mere cleaning.
So, bone rescinded.-- MaxwellBuchanan, May 07 2014 I don't see self-dentistry as viable, except certain portions of extended cleaning, which would require a micro-minicam/waldo/tool thing, which is its own post.-- FlyingToaster, May 07 2014 I don't see why autodentisty should be especially problematic. It would take a while to get used to the left-right reversal (if working mirrorically), but it shouldn't be that much harder than shaving or applying mascara.-- MaxwellBuchanan, May 07 2014 ^ well, true except for the actual "dentistry" bit: X-rays, fillings, crowns, appliances, etc.-- FlyingToaster, May 07 2014 What difficulties, pray tell, do you envisage?-- MaxwellBuchanan, May 07 2014 Self-xrays are a challenge but not insurmountable, especially if you purchase the advanced starter kit.
All the rest of it is micro-sculpture that any obsessive-compulsive type could master, and recent advances in two-part compound technology and laser-activated bonding agents simplify this for layman applications.
Wait a minute - I didn't like this idea. What the hell am I saying?-- normzone, May 07 2014 I don't see why it should be any harder to work on your own mouth than on someone else's, given suitable mirrors or cameras.-- MaxwellBuchanan, May 07 2014 Certainly an application for 3d printers, however I'd like to see a home trepanning kit(buy one now and we'll throw in a set of lobotomy needles) on the market first, to weed out the ones that are more interested in the DIY aspect than dentistry.-- FlyingToaster, May 07 2014 What's your address, we'll get that couriered to you by tomorrow.

Leopold Ritter von Sacher-Masoch would be so proud. As would the intercalary twin, and your Step-Great-Uncle Mandelstein.-- 8th of 7, May 07 2014 I didn't like this idea at first but it's growing on me.
I'm pretty sure that if I had administered my own freezing for my last filling exchange I would still have full feeling/taste on the right side of my tongue and, cold beer wouldn't taste like a copper flavored ice-cream headache on that side of my skull.
...not to mention that time I had an abscessed tooth cracked in three and yanked un-frozen with a waiting room full of little kids.
or that other time when... but I digress.I'm liking this idea more and more.-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, May 07 2014 I don't think one can do their own root canal removal, but you can tie a string around your tooth and the other end to a door, then slam the door and viola- your tooth can be pulled out. (providing it is already rotting or somewhat loose.)-- xandram, May 08 2014 //Leopold Ritter von Sacher-Masoch would be so proud. As would the intercalary twin, and your Step- Great-Uncle Mandelstein//
Due to a rather strange series of events in the Buchanan family past, the intercalary twin _is_ my step-great-uncle. However, the intercalary's name is not Mandelstein.-- MaxwellBuchanan, May 08 2014 Don't obfuscate, everyone knows perfectly well that you have a whole pack (swarm ? pride ? mob ? einsatzgruppen ?) of step-great-uncles, at least two great step-uncles (possibly still three, if the antitoxin injections were administered in time) and one Uncle Great-Stephan.-- 8th of 7, May 08 2014 random, halfbakery
