Virtual Paradise For Trash Pickers

It's nearly impossible to explain the delight experienced upon discovering a great find in the trash, as the saying goes "One mans trash is another mans something or other" What I propose is a virtual dump station where before deletion of waste files a user may upload them to this waste station...Other users may then sign on, sift through, and download all this great stuff. Now I understand that it would be diffucult to store all these junk files so there would have to be a file size limit as well as a limit as to how long the files could be stored. In addition to this once the file has been downloaded it is erased from the database...This idea is also a perfect fit for programs such as napster.

without the bears roaming around, it just won't feel like the dump. Maybe throw in some virus just for fun. A nice idea though.

You're proposing file sharing recycle bins? Yeah, I have lots of scary deleted e-mails with .exe, .pif and .scr attachments- you're more than welcome to have them if you wish..

Greetings, fellow trash picker.
I see that you mean *software*. Darn, I was hoping to clean out my storage room without throwing perfectly good 286/386 based computers in the trash.

I can just see the bots now, endlessly scanning this thing for SSNs, bank accounts, and other juicy tidbits that you had completely forgotten were stored somewhere in there.

One of my more dubious aqquaintances will go out to the back of the local office world after hours and pick the stuff that they throw into their electrical skip, he has managed to get a fairly decent computer system going by this method.

//One of my more dubious aqquaintances // so *your* friend, kaz - how long has he had this problem? has he seen a counsellor at all?

So far I've scored 2 end-tables, a complete encyclopedia set, a set of cookware, a monitor, a microwave tray, and my dining room table from the trash. It all goes quite well with my college hand-me-down couch, mattress, night-stand, headboard, and ugly yellow but terribly comfy easy chair.

Maybe fttp: (File Trash Transfer Protocol) could be implemented to standards everywhere.

[RayfordSteele], I believe your decor would be suitably called Rustic Bachelor.

[po] I dunno I don't talk to him anymore (he's scary in the very odd way).
