Color-coded identity band   (0)  [vote for, against]
Color-code personality and interests into a handband or neckband, and discover people with shared interests while traveling in reality.

You're sitting and looking around in a park. It's 02019, and there's no VR information screens with each person recognized and profiled (except for the luxury of certain public security personnel with access to CCTV networks and identity recognition services, which are still a bit boring, cause they don't tell you much about each person's inside), and you're curious, who are all these people, what are they passionate about?

Interestingly, people's personality features had been quite well extracted by other people, through classifiers like MBTI, and top categories of DMOZ.

So, just give part of the band (like half-circle) to encode the personality classifier, and another part for interests.

The specific coding would have to be finalized, however, I'd imagine assign darker discolorations to more introvert personalities, and brighter to extroverts. Regarding the domains of interests, the spectra from science to art, and from technology to design perhaps could better be indicated by patterns rather than colors.

Fictional reworking of a real event [8th of 7, Jul 24 2019]

Is there a personality type that would (considering today's heat) prefer never having to talk to any other personality types? Particularly ones that feel passionate about anything. Double-especially any that might have gone to the trouble of encoding and displaying their personality type on their arm for others to respond to? Is there one of those?

Might be good for away-day training retreats where everyone has to pretend to be interested in each other and temporarily shelve their inherent mutual dislike - at least as far as is mandated anyway.

Remember, it's not introversion if you just don't want to pretend to be interested.

... until the paintball game*

* "game" insofar as there are winners and losers; no sportsmanship involved. If they can make their own way back to the casualty clearing station unassisted, you're not doing it properly.

I've not been invited to one that includes simulated violence as part of the itinerary...perhaps they know me too well!

<Obligatory "Resistance is Futile" quote/>

// simulated violence //

So easy to be wise after the event. Apparently you're not supposed to drop on the enemy from a tree, knock them to the ground, get them in a chokehold, twist their arm behind their back, and whisper "Do you realise how little force it will take to snap your neck like a dry twig ? "

She seemed strangely upset about the whole business. Still, it's best that interns get acquainted with the big, bad world of work as soon as possible.

It's just like shooting fish in a fishtank for you, isn't it?

Don't mention fishtanks, aquaria, or anything to do with projectile weapons in a piscine context.

Wasn't there some psychosocial experiment where they gave half the kids in a school blue armbands, and the other half green? If I remember correctly, the two groups became instinctively hostile to each other.

Sounds more like the chariot racing supporters in Constantinople <link>

Wasn't that the one about the alleged superiority of tall, blond, fairskinned people with blue eyes ? Run by a short, dark Austrian bloke ?

What's to stop someone from wearing the wrong color headband on purpose and then acting like a real fool, to make their true personality type look better in comparison?

Nothing; but what happens if they then get to be elected leader of their party by oldthinkers who don't get the irony, and end up as prime minister ?

Nobody's laughing now ...

I'm laughing now, but only because Sturton sent me the photos.

Oh, do you mean those, er, "One of your five-a-day" pics ? Yes, indeed ... hilariously funny, but a the same time a bit sad.

It was the look on the chicken's face, really.
