Cloud Bouncing Simplified   (+17)  [vote for, against]
With a Van de Graaff electrostatic generator lighter than air bagel balloon

1. Construct a gas filled vinyl balloon having the shape of a bagel formed like an over-inflated Mickey Mouse auto tire. A continuous bicycle chain runs between the balloon’s axle and pedals in the basket.
2. Sit in the basket and if absent a full head of hair, don a woollen cap or better yet a helmet topped with a stuffed hare.
3. Launch the bagel balloon on a storm cloudy day and float above the wispy tops in the sunlight.
4. Proceed to pedal vigorously while applying hair/wool/hare to the surface of the rotating balloon giving it a negative charge and you with basket a positive charge.
5. Release some gas from the balloon to sink swiftly towards a positively charged cloud crest.
6. Feel repulsion and levity as you rebound upward while picnicking on fried hare gairaut style high above the lightning and hail.

Axle? Balloons have axles?

Cloud Bouncing for dummies?
-- hidden truths, May 09 2005

[bris] As far as I know all bagel balloons have axles.
-- FarmerJohn, May 09 2005

You'd be grounded if you were grounded.
-- Basepair, May 10 2005

+ just for the helmet with a hare strapped to it.
-- moomintroll, May 10 2005

Illustration, please.

Where ... in Halfbakery did this first appear?
-- reensure, May 11 2005

Repulsive...but in a good way.
-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, May 11 2005

Why, [reensure], do you conclude that it must have appeared here before?
-- bristolz, May 11 2005

Okay, you got me, [bristolz]. Unless someone points to the idea appearing here in the past couple years, I'll have to admit that I've had the same idea myself (without the rabbit -- a VERY big without, mind you). +
-- reensure, May 11 2005

what does the bunny get out of this?
-- po, May 11 2005

I’ll give this a + for the image, but the last paragraph doesn’t work. There’s no rebounding because the balloon/basket is overall neutral.
-- ldischler, May 11 2005

what's gairut style? gairaut...thanks.
-- dentworth, May 11 2005

Link for [po] and [dentworth] without the typo
-- FarmerJohn, May 11 2005

ah I see, this is all just an elaborate effort to gas, stuff and fry a bunny. I oughta fish you for that.

I want to see some practical uses for a snapping turtle. other than soup; they are ugly and mean... got anything?
-- dentworth, May 11 2005

[dentworth] You could ship them to India to put in the Ganges - they were introduced there to eat the remains of corpses sent down the river. I'll see if I can find a link [edit] Linky.
-- coprocephalous, May 11 2005

ugh, gag, blehhhhch. thanks [copro]
-- dentworth, May 11 2005

What's the problem [dentworth]? Do you prefer to leave corpse consumption to worms? Are you vertebratist?
-- coprocephalous, May 11 2005
