It seems like the auto companies are struggling mightily, while the oil companies are doing great. Tire prices going up, too. Gas prices are way up now, but they can and do fall occasionally.
As the popularity of leases demonstrates, many already view cars as being "disposable".
So the oil companies should buy the car companies, and mimic the success of the printer makers and the wireless service providers by "giving away the car" so long as you sign a multi-year contract for a specific fuel brand.-- theircompetitor, Aug 05 2005 <Partridge>Jet! If so, where? I want to avoid your garage. Jet is presumably a reference to the filling stations of the same name?-- moomintroll, Aug 05 2005 Ah. Yes, sounds about right. Ouch.-- moomintroll, Aug 05 2005 Not a bad idea, from a consumers perspective, though Im not sure its viable.
One significant downside that comes to mind is that the Oil/Auto industry will not have much interest in fuel economy.-- Shz, Aug 05 2005 [coprocephalous], HP or Lexmark don't make money on the ink-jet printer, they make money on the consummables, i.e. ink, paper, etc.-- theircompetitor, Aug 05 2005 Oh, I see..Inkjet-Carjet.\
How about Contracta-Car? FueLease?-- moPuddin, Aug 05 2005 random, halfbakery
