Burnt Crow   (+6, -5)  [vote for, against]
The jerky of choice for crow lovers and haters.

You wouldn't believe the crows here in Japan. They're huge! They squawk. They eat trash, literally ripping open the Family Mart bags to savour the leftover creme brulee rotting in the plastic's crevices.

The size of them is amusing and enticing. Such a large bird, with a fancy coat of shiny black feathers, so full of life, and all going to waste.

Why doesn't some inventive food firm here grab a few of these accursed birds and make some, oh, I don't know, jerky out of them? I mean, make it smokey, burn the meat even, and I truly think that good flavor would be a result.

Call it Burnt Crow, or some other flavorful name.

Actually, I wouldn't. Killing a crow is an extremley bad omen, it makes buildings fall down and such. Why not extend the idea to Trafalgar Square pigeons. Keeps Ken happy. Feed the birds, tuppence a bag...

could there be a connection between the apparent increase in pop. of crows ( who I may say I admire immensely ) and the decrease in sparrow numbers; I just cannot believe it is due to the increased use of unleaded petrol.

Maybe a borrow an old Cajun recipe? It would need a new name though, because "Blackened Crow" just seems a little redundant. I doubt you will generate much market appeal with crow as a snack food. Give it a fancy name and market the dish as a 5-star dining experience. Those [discount] 5-star vacation resorts are full of suckers who would order it just to further convince themselves they are truly living the high life for a weekend.

They probably don't have many natural predators, so farming/collecting/whatever crows for food might actually work. Why not? People eat all sorts of things that at least somebody thinks is gross. Tripe, chitterlings, sweetbreads, Rocky Mountain oysters,... <shrug>

I've eaten pigeon many times when traveling to China, and interestingly enough, you don't see many pigeons flying around over there, so I think using Crow as food would definitely help eradicate the noise and mess problems.

I've been told to watch out when eating pigeon though: its said that a good Chinese chef can cook and chop up a rat and make the presentation look like pigeon. So they say 'make sure its served with the head so you can see that it was a pigeon'. On that note, you know I don't remember seeing many crows in China either, so let me just say in advance: they were very tasty!

Or, well, I might just have to eat crow on that one.
