Having been required to disguise myself under circumstances which need not concern us here, I can attest to the fact that a burka is not the most comfortable attire in a hot climate. Walking around in one is, at best, a hot and bothersome experience.
At the same time, the burka does provide a wealth of opportunities for the concealment of a variety of items (again, the circumstances need not concern us here).
On a superficially unrelated note, the Segway is an admirable form of personal transportation. However, a regular Segway is ill-suited to intraburkal concealment, having too wide a wheelbase relative to the burka-wearer's hips. Moreover, the handlebars sort of bulge, giving the game away.
MaxCo's middle-east division, therefore, is proud to announce the launch of its burka-compatible Segwayesque personal transportation - the Burlesque.
Narrower than a conventional Segway, and with with the handlebar redesigned to allow control in a smaller envelope, the Burlesque allows the hot and bothered burka-wearers of the world to glide effortlessly and mysteriously, maintaining a serene smile which, of course, nobody else will be able to see.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 27 2012 Arising from: burka_20hurdle_20jumpers [MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 27 2012] //the foot platform could be lowered// Yes, but only at the expense of height. If an effortlessly gliding burka is impressive, an effortlessly gliding 7ft burka is all the more so.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 27 2012 //effortlessly gliding 7ft burka// - er, excuse me - are you Vader's bodyguard?-- lurch, Jun 27 2012 //So you want to...// In a word, of course.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 27 2012 And so they'd just appear to sortof drift around like angels of death, or unhorsed ringwraiths?-- RayfordSteele, Jun 27 2012 Burqa-compatible combine harvesters...-- Phrontistery, Jun 27 2012 How about a Segway burqua in, for instance, a nice Dalek-print ... ?
// are you Vader's bodyguard? //
Vader needs a BODYGUARD ? Vader is the reason FOR bodyguards ...
You're thinking of the Emperor, aren't you ?-- 8th of 7, Jun 27 2012 I'm not thinking of the Emperor. I'm thinking such an apparition might trigger odd reactions, stupid questions, etc.-- lurch, Jun 27 2012 //My understanding has been that traditional Muslim attire is actually quite cool// I can attest to the contrary, even when allowance is made for the tweed jacket and plus-fours I was (of necessity - a long story) wearing underneath.
//is the idea for...// Yes, you have apprehended my intention most perspicaciously.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 27 2012 //My understanding has been that traditional Muslim attire is actually quite cool in hot environments...//
So why don't the men wear it?-- Loris, Jun 28 2012 [Max], can't you just tell us the story?-- theleopard, Jun 28 2012 //can't you just tell us the story?//
Sadly not until 25 years after the deaths of Seyed Ali Khamenei, Sturton Buchanan, the president of the World Wildlife Fund (or possibly the World Wrestling Federation - I forget) and Mr. Jacob Tebbe of Golder's Green, London.
Fortunately Mr. Tebbe is looking quite unwell, and so he at least is unlikely to be the rate-limiting factor.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 28 2012 I'm quite surprised you can actually tell us the criteria governing your ability to reveal the story.-- hippo, Jun 28 2012 Only because the really important people are either dead, no longer in power, or amusingly insane. There are some things which man is not meant to know.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 28 2012 //no longer in power// rather pompous to refer to the retired deputy convener of Tadminster second chess team supporters club like that!-- pocmloc, Jun 28 2012 No, he's one of the dead ones. He knew too much.
I should emphasize that names have been changed to protect the guilty.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 28 2012 [MB] the number of sovereign states which you can never visit again since you have been sentenced to death in absentia is getting disturbingly extensive.-- 8th of 7, Jun 28 2012 No no, [8th], I only have to avoid those states that have extradition treaties with Absentia.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 28 2012 I'd be avoiding those with extant extradition treaties with Reality, too, [Max].-- UnaBubba, Jun 28 2012 Reality rarely, if ever, visits the HB.-- AusCan531, Jun 29 2012 Many a true word said in HB annotations, [AusCan].-- UnaBubba, Jun 29 2012 random, halfbakery
