Mites are everywhere, and I'm sure they can be induced to engage in mortal combat, in which case I believe that contests should take place using belly buttons as the arena for these unique spectacles.
Cameras with powerful macro lenses would record the bouts under miniature floodlights, as the mites manoeuvred, and negotiated the various folds of skin that characterise the average bellybutton.
Obviously they would need to be identified by wearing microscopic replica Mexican Wrestler masks, and that would require a nano technology device to dress and undress them.
In time, champions would emerge, and a league of Belly Button Mites organised. (no mites were encountered or injured in the writing of this idea)-- xenzag, Mar 15 2011 As per [zen_tom]... http://www.youtube....watch?v=3Rl46Dpy-P4 [Jinbish, Mar 16 2011] This is disturbing, in flagrant breach of the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Mar 15 2011 Test your mite!-- rcarty, Mar 15 2011 Would inevitably lead to the breeding of bigger mites. Eventually macroscopic. Picture one of those climbing, victorious, out of your navel.-- mouseposture, Mar 15 2011 //This is disturbing// Such a sweet comment. How happy I am to read those words.-- xenzag, Mar 15 2011 Two mites enter, one mite leaves!-- Jinbish, Mar 15 2011 It all sounds very uncertain.-- rcarty, Mar 16 2011 Something to contemplate, beats lint I guess.
Also a good excuse to play the tournament music from Star Trek (the original series) from the scene where Kirk is coerced into fighting Spock to the death (Spock at the time is undergoing Pon farr) with the usual rolling around, shirt-tearing etc and using weird alien spades for weapons.
As far as dressing them up and publicising their antics etc, it might be better than celebrity big brother, but then again, that's not a particularly high measure of success.-- zen_tom, Mar 16 2011 ...but it might work.-- xandram, Mar 16 2011 ...but it might work.-- xandram, Mar 16 2011 //using belly buttons as the arena// Innies rather than Outies presumably?-- DrBob, Mar 16 2011 "Outies" would be good for a form of Sumo, where one mite has to push the other off. Miniature Dung Beetles could be trained for that specific purpose.
