There are a few big bands that play without a conductor, but it's really hard. The main reason for this difficulty is the inability to hear the music from a broader perspective. The trumpet wouldn't know he's drowning out the trombone, or that he has been playing a tiny bit too fast. The proposed solution is a leaderless big band who all have earpieces which play back to them, via headphones, a microphone placed at the front where a conductor would ordinarily be. Thereby each member of the band is free to play as they wish, but this time they'll be drowning out the violinist (bastard won't stop smoking in the dressing room) on purpose.-- Voice, May 20 2022 Multiple, clashing conductors would be interesting.-- RayfordSteele, May 21 2022 random, halfbakery
