My dishwasher washes AND dries the dishes, all in the same cabinet. I've seen laundry centres where they stack the dryer on top of the washer, so that is basically a single unit laundry centre. And I've seen combination microwave/convection ovens, also mini toaster ovens that bake toast or anything small. Furthermore, my fridge also has a mini-freezer in the top of the cabinet. What if you had all that stuff in ONE cabinet? Because lets face it, I don't want to have a "laundry" room to do laundry, I'd rather make that into a spare bedroom, and why couldn't I use a dishwasher drain for a clotheswasher drain?
The appliance would be double-wide and double-tall, but in that space you get EVERYTHING. Not only do you get an oven, but it can dry clothes, dehydrate fruit, make toast, and dry dishes, and it's got a microwave magnetron in there too. The clothes washer side can also wash dishes. On the top are the cooking elements, but also motor and blade attachments for food processing, plus the surface can be used for ironing clothes (and the iron fits into a built-in compartment). The fridge and freezer are there too, plus a sink for washing vegetables (why not, you need water/drain hookups for the dishwasher function). You never have to worry about the appliances matching, because they are all ONE appliance!
Perhaps it breaks into two refrigerator-sized pieces for moving into your house, but once you get it inside it all hooks up into one big monolith. Each function is modular so they can get repaired separately.-- Grunchy, Dec 16 2005 Foodarackacycle http://en.wikipedia...he_Jetsons_episodesbaked, jetsons had one already [Arcanus, Mar 26 2010] All-In-One Kitchen (1952) http://blog.modernm...l-in-one-kitchen-2/Refrigerator, range, and the kitchen sink. Welcome, by the way, [Grunch].-- froglet, Dec 20 2005 See what I mean? The idea just replicates itself, it is so good.
My poppa told me the problem with all-in-one appliances is that, if some little part of it breaks, and it has to go in for servicing, then you've got absolutely nothing for a little while, and you need a 1-ton truck to haul your food slicer away to get the motor lubed. Or, if it wears out, then you've got a mountain of appliances to replace all at once. Or else, parts of it wear out and you just tell everybody, "oh don't use that part, that part is worn out, you have to go downstairs and use the other thing".
But other than that why not? I've got an MP3 player which is a flash jump drive, picture viewer, and TV. Or you can get a cell phone which is also a camera, a video camera, a computer, and a GPS. Now you can buy a TV which is also a DVD player, or a VHS player which is also a DVD player, recorder, Tivo device, and satellite receiver. Etc, etc!-- Grunchy, Dec 20 2005 The way I see it, an all-in-one appliance which is modular is a kitchen.-- moomintroll, Dec 21 2005 I'd end up with socks in the oven , dirty dishes in the freezer, and raw meat in the dishwasher.
