Ever woken up in the morning after a night on the beer and wondered why you're covered in bumps and bruises? It's because you fell over a lot on the way home. If all clothing had built in air bags then this problem would be instantly eliminated plus, if the inflation device was powerful enough, it could stand you back up again as well. Also, if you accidentally stagger into the wrong neighbourhood, the air bags could protect you from getting a good kicking. I'm sure they'd be useful for other groups of people beside drunks but I think I'll stick to my own specialism for now.-- DrBob, Jun 30 2000 Eggparka http://www.eggparka.com/Intending for motorbike use, but could be handy for a night on the hemmel. At last my genius is recognised! [DrBob, Mar 24 2008] Airbags for people. http://news.bbc.co....pacific/7633989.stmIt's official, I am a clairvoyant genius! [DrBob, Sep 25 2008] Post-Art Auto_20Inflate_20Cushion_20SlacksI had a similar idea in 2002 - and also noticed the crazy invention. [DrBob] is a clairvoyant genius. [Jinbish, Sep 25 2008] If only these had been invented (and produced) two years ago.... Muggins here jumped a short wall to drain the weasel after leaving the pub, not realising there was a 12 foot drop on the other side. I landed on my back. If I'd had air-bag clothing I wouldn't have spent two weeks barely able to walk... I look back and laugh now. :)-- MrTheRich, Jun 30 2000 Hmmm! MrTheRich has set me thinking. An awful lot of the things that go wrong in my life occur shortly after leaving the pub. I can see two solutions to this... a) don't leave the pub or.. b) invent some sort of warning device that detects when you are about to do something very inadvisable and projects a warning onto a nearby cloud formation (possibly using lasers).
For example, I left a pub one night and, as I was crossing a car park, kicked a nearby traffic cone into orbit just because it was there. A friend who had staggered out of the pub with me thought that this was a wonderful game and also kicked the nearest cone as hard as he could. If only there had been a nice neon warning on the nearest cloud formation to tell him that it had been filled with concrete it would have saved him three months in plaster and a lot less humiliation.-- DrBob, Jun 30 2000 DrBob's "b" idea was already invented by Douglas Adams as "Peril-Sensitive Sunglasses".
The Infocom game "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" came with a pair. When I try to use them, they're always opaque. I guess I'm always in peril.-- brouhaha, Aug 10 2000 very nice... you realize, my being a newly-twelve-year-old, that we hyperactive kids could use air-bagged clothes just as much as you grownups. i can just imagine in the stores- "new! fashionable yellow cotton tank-top, with new patented AirBagz!" "Stay warm and unbruised with our lovely blue knit sweater! Green ivy embroidery along the hems. Now with patented AirBagz!" lmao-- dragonette, Dec 21 2000 Ah! Of course. I'd forgotten about the huge sales potential for anything that has a 'z' instead of an 's'. Product name has been amended accordingly.-- DrBob, Dec 21 2000 And now, to mention again one of the most oft-mentioned books in this group: *Snow Crash*. In this book Neil Stephenson describes a suit used by the Kouriers that goes into "Michelin Man Mode" when there is an impending crash. There is even an airbag to envelop the head, negating the need for a helmet.Good book, that.-- badoingdoing, Dec 23 2000 Bob: model numbers ending in lower case i are cute too. Like Renault 18i, Panasonic 1091i, etc.-- LoriZ, Jun 23 2001 [Dr Bob] The conclusion of your syllogism is fallacious, being based upon licensed premises.-- lostkidstent, Nov 05 2001 wish you could download a book the way you can music. wish I had a pound for everytime one of you has mentioned a book that I am now itching to read "join the library", oh I know-- po, Nov 10 2001 007 had a coat that created a big inflateable ball that protected him and 1 lady of his choice during an avalanche in the world is not enough-- chud, Jan 16 2002 yes! for all the skaters, snowboarders, amateur stuntboys who fall all the time. just make clothing that is already full of air / heavily padded. it will be very funny looking, which i'm sure will catch on, and it will also keep them out of the hospital.-- Skullhead, Oct 29 2002 You can see great airbag jackets and vests at www.hit-air.com There's video there as well!-- YGH, Nov 14 2003 linky.-- DrBob, Mar 24 2008 Another, even better, linky!-- DrBob, Sep 25 2008 random, halfbakery
