ABC Music Notation Music search comes to the rescue!

essentially a site with a whole heap of (Google bot) search able pages of music title with only the chorus done in abc notation (To avoid death by lawyers)

To search this website, all you need is to type parts of the song in to Google's search engine provided by the site.

Don't know how to do abc? Then use the on board Flash keyboard, and type out the tune.

It will then direct Google to search the site for the song that matches the notation.

ABC notation? It looks complicated, and it looks as if you need to know which key the piece is in to begin with. There's a much easier notation, Parson's Code, that basically involves saying whether each note is higher (U), lower (D) or the same (.) as the one before. So, the first few bits of "Happy Birthday" would be (using a "*" to indicate the first note):

*.UDUDD.UDUD

This is ideal for searching for melodies - you can do it in your head, and it doesn't matter what key you're in. There are several sites that use Parson's Code to allow you to search melodies (eg, see link).
