Dating sites exist for the beautiful, the intelligent, the homosexual, the religious, the unfaithful, the conservative, the bondage-enthusiasts, the model train lovers, and any number of other qualities that seek to give the lie to the phrase "opposites attract".
To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, the problem with dating sites is that 95% of the population are just plain undateable.
I propose the establishment of an online dating service that serves as the bit bucket for those who are too bitter, too ugly, too resigned, lazy, apathetic, unwashed, boring, or otherwise undistinguished to have the slightest hope in hell on a conventional matchmaking web page.
Forget "speed dating", this is "I no longer care" dating. What we need is a mechanism that can (a) bring individuals together and (b) do (a) in such a way as to create a long lasting bond. To my mind, this is best acheived by way of a pro bono, interventionist hostage-taking: an elaborately staged event wherein poke-necked and goggle-eyed misfits can find themselves flung together, physically and emotionally, as hostage and (perhaps unwitting) captor, the natural progression of Stockholm and Lima syndromes forming, in 25% of cases, benzene-strong emotional bonds.
