Balloon elevator

Massive consumption of rubber

When entering a balloon elevator, you can push two buttons. 'Inflate' or 'Deflate'. The former pumps balloons full of air at the base of the elevator through small holes, pushing everyone upward. The latter produces needles through smaller holes.

For 50¢ extra per ride you can inflate with helium instead of air, just to mix it up!

( Yes I know... The most novel part of this idea is buying something for 50¢)

Instead of the massive waste, perhaps a "Hullaballoon" type of mechanism

I'm thinking of pumped hydro power storage, but with balloons.
