Stovetop utensil washer

simple steam cleaner

I find washing utensils to be the most tedious of dishwashing tasks and the most difficult to complete satisfactorily.

The proposed device is a steam cleaner for utensils. It has a generic stainless steel pot, a suitably sized perforated basket that fits into the pot opening and has a handle, and a lid.

Place dirty utensils into the basket. When full (or when desired), pour water into the pot, apply lid, and put on stovetop to simmer. Damp steam is an amazing cleaner. When done, grab the basket handle and dump the utensils into another container. They will dry from the heat, and not have watermarks even if you used very hard water.

I've a cookpot with an included steamer/strainer basket. That basket would hold a big handful of eating-sized utensils, Shirley. If you want something that will hold large ladles and such, go buy a turkey deep-fryer (it's an American thing) with a basket and use it as a steamer.

You will only be able to steam metal utensils. Most of mine are plastic, sadly.
