This sounds like Chinese Kite Fighting with kites capable of carrying a man. Kites capable of carrying a man exist as people experimented with them for military purposes both in Ancient China and in the west before airplanes were in common use. The jousting element is just a method of the man in a kite seeking to unsettle his airborne opponent - Chinese Kite Fighting tactics could also be used. |
